Breast Reduction
Breast reduction operations are surgical procedures
performed on large breasts that cause both health and aesthetic problems. Large
breasts cause back pain, posture disorders, fatigue, skin problems caused by sweating
under the breast, deformities in the skeletal system and many other health
problems.
Extremely large breasts can also cause women to be unable to wear the clothes they want due to their aesthetically unattractive appearance. This can lead to a loss of self-confidence and may lead women to breast reduction operations. Breast reduction operations offer comfort to women who have complaints about their large breasts.
Breast Lift and Breast Reduction
Based on our preliminary
discussions with our patients, we can say that in some cases the desired breast
shape can be achieved not only by breast reduction but also by breast lift.
Therefore, which operation is the most suitable for the patient can only be
decided by examination.
For suitable patients, breast reduction operations
provide a beautiful breast structure and, more importantly, a higher quality of
life.
Candidates for breast reduction and
breast lift operations include people whose breasts exceed the proportion
considered reasonable, who have sagging problems in addition to size, who
cannot dress as they wish due to their large breasts, who have skin problems,
back, waist and posture disorders, whose large breasts prevent them from
performing their daily activities, who have scars on their back due to bra use,
who have low self-confidence due to an unaesthetic appearance, and who have
orthopedic problems such as hand numbness, loss of sensation and posture
problems.
In breast reduction operations,
where we aim for the least possible scarring and the most aesthetically
satisfying appearance, planning should be done with the utmost care and the
patient should achieve the healthiest and most attractive result. The scar,
which is formed as a result of an inverted T-shaped incision starting under the
nipple and extending towards the underside of the breast, will fade over time
and become almost completely invisible as it coincides under the breast.
However, since each patient’s breast size is different, the techniques used and
the incision scars may also differ.
Breast reduction operations do not prevent patients
from breastfeeding. These procedures are performed on excess fatty tissue, not
on the milk glands.
Gynecomastia Operation
Gynecomastia is a condition in which the breasts in
men become excessively enlarged and noticeable due to weight gain or generally
for hormonal reasons. Side effects of medication that cause psychological
stress can also sometimes cause gynecomastia. Changes that occur naturally
during the development of the pectoral muscles cannot be defined as
gynecomastia. The breast consists of 2 main tissues: adipose tissue and mammary
glands. In case of gynecomastia, the classification is based on the increase in
the amounts of these two types of tissue and the treatment process is determined
accordingly.
Although 40% of gynecomastia cases
occur between the ages of 10 and 16, this percentage can reach 65% when a
person’s growth is at its fastest. Most symptoms of gynecomastia disappear
spontaneously within two years and even more within three years. In a very
small number of cases, there is no improvement. Gynecomastia in older men is
usually caused by fat accumulation in the chest area. In cases of gynecomastia
that do not resolve spontaneously within three to four years, the treatment
method is surgery.
Gynecomastia surgery can be performed under local or
general anesthesia. The anesthesia method to be used is decided by considering
the patient’s age and breast size. The operation takes an average of 1 to 1.5
hours. The patient can return home the next day after gynecomastia surgery. 2-3
days after the operation, the patient can take a bath and start working.
Breast Augmentation
Breasts are very important organs
in terms of the femininity of a woman’s body shape and the perception of a
woman’s body beauty. Small breasts can disturb the person aesthetically and in
terms of clothing options.
Today, implant technology is quite advanced. The
implants used today can provide a natural breast appearance. Silicone drop
implants are very popular today.
Patients may want or need breast
plastic surgery if their small breasts cause problems with their body image and
self-confidence, if the size of their hips and breasts are disproportionate, if
they have difficulty choosing clothes, in cases such as breast collapse due to
postpartum weight, sagging and hollow feeling, or if there is asymmetry between
the two breasts.
Implants used for breast
augmentation are generally inserted into the body through an incision under the
breast, an incision around the nipple, an incision in the armpit or an incision
in the belly button. The umbilicus is rarely chosen for this procedure, because
operations at this point do not give good results. Breast implants are usually
placed above or below the pectoral muscles.
You should discuss with your doctor what size you want
and for what purpose you want to have the operation. Breast augmentation
procedure makes the breasts look fuller, increases their attractiveness,
increases breast size, eliminates asymmetry, if any, corrects sagging, corrects
the ratio of breast size to other parts of the body, makes the patient’s
clothes fit better on her body and rebuilds her self-confidence.
Breast Lift (Mastopexy)
Due to weight changes, breastfeeding and the effect of
gravity, there may be incompatibilities between the breast tissue and the
surrounding skin. The ligaments holding the breast tissue in place may loosen
over time. The source of the problem may be breast tissue, skin or both.
In breast lift surgery, sagging breast tissue is reshaped and excess skin is removed. The nipple is moved to where it should be. This operation is performed under general anesthesia and in an operating room environment. It takes about one and a half to two hours. The remaining surgical scars vary according to the degree of preoperative sagging. Regardless of the method applied, scar formation around the nipple is inevitable. Scar formation can be reduced as much as possible, but there is no breast lift surgery that leaves no scars. The sutures used in these operations are absorbed by the body and do not need to be removed after surgery. A sports bra without a strap is worn for 6 weeks, massage is also recommended. In the early postoperative period, swelling, nipple numbness and purplish discoloration of the skin may occur. These will resolve spontaneously after a short time. The patient can return to work 3 to 4 days after the breast lift. The new, shaped breasts will keep their shape for a long time, but weight changes, pregnancy, breastfeeding and gravity can cause new sagging.
